Building the ICT Infrastructure for the AI Inference Era: IOWN Initiatives and Ecosystems

Abstract:

We are now entering into the era of AI inference, where anyone can use AI for their business and life. AI inference requires several key characteristics of ICT infrastructure that differ from AI training, such as end-to-end connectivity, data privacy/sovereignty/security, system resilience, ease of application deployment, and fast response. For ICT infrastructure, AI inference requires several important characteristics differ from AI training, such as end-to-end connectivity, data privacy/sovereignty/security, system resiliency, easy to deploy applications, and fast response. Comprehensive orchestration, between fixed and wireless, DC and DC, and platform and platform is essential to ensure these requirements. Involvement of multiple stakeholders and open communities is also important for interoperability, security, and application ecosystems. IOWN (Innovative Optical and Wireless Network) is a photonics powered next generation ICT infrastructure for the era of AI with diverse players and communities. This talk will cover IOWN's use case efforts for diverse industries, distributed AI computing infrastructure, and open community ecosystems.

Biography:

Dr. Yosuke ARAGANE is Vice President, Deputy Head of IOWN Integrated innovation Center, NTT. His responsibilities are supervising IOWN service/products development and external communication with partners. Since his joining NTT Labs in 1997, his major research area has been in Cyber Security including CSIRT operations and Security Service Development. He has also been responsible for managing corporate technology strategies and managing global wide service offerings in both NTT East, NTT Labs, and NTT Holdings. Since 2019, he has led IOWN initiatives such as NTT’s IOWN R&D, IOWN service development, and external communications including IOWN Global Forum establishment and operations. Since 2026, he has had current responsibilities.
